I don't hate people, but I can't stand self-inflicted ignorance and people's desire to be offended and worse...."victims".
This is a legitimate business that deserves respect and our support.
I intended to call their Chamber of Commerce and see how I can support Havana Joe's effort to establish a respectable, upstanding storefront.

Everything for the "greater good". One group offended by this and that. Taking religious items out of the public square. When will people actually start reading The Constitution and Declaration of Independence? When did the "Pursuit of Happiness" and "Endowed by their Creator" become politically incorrect! People need to understand the basic difference between the word "separation" and "establishment"! How about that old fashioned idea"Congress shall make no laws"! I want to start a silly group that is offended by something ridiculous and invite all Christians (any and all denominations), Jews, Black people, white people, yellow people, bronze people, Smokers and people who like food that's bad for you and become one voting block and get these idiots who run this place out and get people with common sense, respect and an understanding of OUR Constitution in there.

Well now i hate people too. I work 5 minutes from there in Des Plaines... and have been looking for somewhere in the NW burbs to smoke. So annoying.
Yes it is. I've also gone to The Foundry in Aurora (it's on Rte 59 right on the border of Aurora and Naperville). You can drink there, too, whereas I don't believe that Bull & Bear serves alcohol. (But I might be wrong)
I used to live Schaumburg and that sounds typically of some of the people in the area (Palentine, Arlington Heights, etc.). Really pathetic - what happened to trying to helping small business make a go of things.
I've got a similar story. I'm in a condo in Madison, WI and have a smoking room on my lower level for smoking in during the winter. When it's nice out I smoke out on my deck during the weekend. In the last condo association newsletter there was a small paragraph about people smoking cigarettes and cigars outside and people being able to smell them. I might see 2 people outside in my condo association during the 2+ hours I'm outside (my dad said the over/under is 2.5 cars and/or people). The lights in most of the condos around me are usually off during the weekend because people go somewhere and aren't home. I called my neighbor and asked her about it (she's president) - she said the complaint was more about cigarette smokers who aren't as polite about where they smoke. Go figure.

Not to sound overly negative or overly-general, but…
I would love to know how many of the people who spoke against the store are really NIMBYs (not in my back yard)? Wanna bet several of them actually enjoy a cigar but, due to peer pressure, aren't comfortable admitting it? While I don't necessarily advocate a *total* abandonment of boundaries and limitations when it comes to things that give us pleasure, the net result of puritanism is that we still do those things but we do them in secret and become liars and sneaks.
