I finally "got a guy" at my local Binny's. Called me up and put aside an EH Taylor Barrel Proof for me. I've seen them on secondary and forget about paying those prices, but at retail, I'm a happy (and lucky) camper.
Also received another bottle t8ke (Jay West) picked, a 9 year wheated bourbon at 115 proof. I like the last pick so I took a chance. Review to follow when I crack it.
I really enjoyed the palate....the flavors were deep and rich, the mouthfeel oily and coating.
The finish wasn't as good as I had hoped, and this didn't immediately become "my favorite batch". At retail I am happy, but I would not pay the secondary prices even though they've already come down to closer to $140.
Went to a liquor store with a bar about 40 miles away. Had pours of JD Coy Hill and 1792 Sweet Wheat. The Coy Hill was outstanding and the 1792 was ok.
Came home and killed the last of my JD Barrel Strength for comparison.
Grabbed two Knob Creek single barrel picks from a Chicagoland store yesterday. On of them is a 10 year 11 month pick, the oldest I've seen since Beam discontinued the 14 year sib picks some time ago.
With a name like "Bung Bangers", it has to be good.
