Everyone was all hyped up, and could not wait till they came out... and now they are out, and there is a bunch of shops that just have them on the shelf... and no one even looks at them...
What happened? Is this gonna happen again next year??

I would have to say price tag. those who could afford boxes got em. Then the others just picked up a single or so. The reviews really have not helped either. don't get me wrong...they are not bad...but at 20 a stick...they are not raving. Im not gunna lie...I have yet to buy one even myself. keeps getting bumped back by the other less expensive sticks. I will own a few in the near future just waiting for things to slow a bit. I will bet though...that once there gone...the hype will kick up a bit again.
but that is just my $.02 on it.

It's probably the fact that it's a $20 stick. I honestly think it's worth the admission, it was a well constructed stick that offered many distinct complexity changes, that were extremely balanced and smooth.

It's one of the best stick's I've had strait off the truck in a long time. I know I want a box for aging. In a year, these are going to really hot, IMO.

At $20 a stick I'd go for an Opus X or Padron Anny first. I'm not a big fan of cigars over $10 unless they have gotten a lot of good press & word of mouth from fellow botl which the Verite hasn't really gotten.

Yep price tag and a few so/so reviews have ended the hype. As much as I like Pete and a lot of his cigars, he can't hit a home run every-time. He experimented with true vintage cigar, I believe all the tobacco is from the same year and same farm. Cool idea, but it does not ssem to have panned out. Either way he's the only one with the nuts enough to do it.

For me it's a combination of price and availability at my locals, not one I'll go out of the way for. Most of the reviews I've heard have said it was a 'good' cigar, but not stellar. I saw a buddy light one and toss it about 1/3 in and said it was very dry and flavorless. I'd try one, but it's not high on the list. I'm curious to see how the performance of the 2008 effects (affects?) the futures release of the 2009.

I smoked a robuto ($16.00) and it just didn't "WOW" me, I have yet to try the churchill only because I very seldom smoke a churchill sized cigar!

I have not given up on either of them I'm letting the one I bought age and see what happens.

Yep, price it is. I went into my BM the other day and they had a box, 2 singles were gone. At $20.79 or such people don't want to risk it.

There's just so many new releases I can't keep up! I haven't even caught up with the Nosotros yet. I'm like 6 months behind and there's so many new sticks I want to try that combined cost isn't much more than a few Verites.

Easy....

Moderate reviews, $20 retail, bad economy.

Great idea from a fantastic cigar maker....Let's see how the next batch does.

This exactly....

I also think that by the time these were actually released, everyone knew about them, and that killed some of the momentum it might have had...

Also, this is probably the worst time in the world to release a new cigar, right near the show (although the Verites were released before then, obviously)...

I have heard AMAZING things about the 2009 Churchill, so I am thinking that this line will just get better and better...

I just smoked the Churchill last night. It is very good and the most appealing thing to me was its complexity. Nearly every puff had different notes and nuances. However, I'm not convinced it's worth the price tag. To me, for a third less, I'd go with the Reserva SW every day of the week. Same exact size but a much better value IMO. I must admit that I bought into the pre-release hype of the Verite and I certainly don't regret picking one up, but I believe there are better sticks out there for less money. (I should also state that I'm eagerly awaiting the 2009 Verite, especially since it uses the controversial Pelo de Oro leaf.

Controversial Pelo de Oro leaf? I didn't hear about any controversy...I just heard it was running out and too hard to re-grow. Did I miss something?

It's not that it's running out... but no one grows it... so it's past "running out"
And it's illegal to grow it in Cuba, hard to grow and keep it clean!

The 2009 isn't good at all. Don't even bother picking any up.:) ( of course I'm joking)I just think the cigar had too high of expectations. And too high a price tag for some not all. Ya can't put the P on the pedistal. Also few more words. Pepin and son cigar, yes I'll buy a box.

Okay, I've decided to raise my regular everyday production Cojonu 2003 to $20.00. People are trying to compare it to brown label. This doesn't make sense to me. This cigar is so much different.

I guess if I come out with a cigar with no originality at $35.00, it will be accepted.
