The great thing is that she cared enough to buy you something that you enjoy,,,cigars. The next thing to do is to talk to her and give her a list of cigars you love and that will be enough for her to draw from next time she wants to buy you cigars. It would be like you buying her perfume...she knows what she likes but sometimes we don't have the same tastes in things...which is why we ask questions and leave hints . You're still fortunate to have a wife who supports your hobby.

The Fossil watch comparison was the best one I read. Fossil makes fine watches that 99% of people would wear without any question. Being such a cigar snob that you have to admit that you can't and won't use your wife's gift is a little embarrassing.

I have smoked enough Gurkha to understand your position. I wouldn't try to train her right away, there's plenty of time for that later.

My advice is to swap bands so that you can enjoy a "Gurkha" with your wife while also having a cigar that is up to your standards. Invite her outside to join you. Then text her some photos of Padron and My Father bands so she can save them in her phone for next time.

Enjoy having a wife who supports your love for cigars. We all don't have that.

Lol the questions were ....

So what do you guys do when someone gives you something you will never use? And more importantly how do I stop her from getting shit I wont smoke or use?
Not what should I do with these ghurkas or how do I keep from hurting my wife's feelings etc...

I'm only pointing this out cuz heck id like to know too (at least the first question) and most of you have not answered them.
Good point. When someone gives me something I will never use I usually just smile and say thanks then hold on to it until someone I know mentions that they would like said thing. This usually happens to me. For instance for my birthday I got a canvas satchel from a distant aunt that came to visit. I will never use a f-ing satchel. Sorry not my style not to mention I'm fat and wearing a cross body strap just makes my tits look bigger. So I tossed it in the closet. This year for Xmas my girlfriends cousin that's a prepper recently got into 18th century long hunter stuff. Basically he goes hunting like they used to go hunting. Black powder, tin kettle, flint and steel fires and all that stuff. He mentioned he wanted a haversack. Which is essentially a satchel. So I took it out back, removed the padding that made it look like a laptop bag and dipped in some "fixin wax" (best stuff on earth if your into the outdoors. ) and turned it into a waterproof waxed canvas bag. Gave it to him and he flipped said it was the best gift all year.

In order to stop her from getting you stuff you
dont want or use you just have to make sure knows what you do want to smoke or use. Communicate. My girlfriend knows that if she ever buys me cigars anything Tatuaje or any size four kicks, liga privada, or padron will be much appreciated. If she wants to wander outside that she knows to go to fine ash and ask Sam what to get me. She knows this because I have told her. Repeatedly.

There's no way Gurkha are so bad you have to swap bands.... RIGHT?!?!?
Not all Gurkhas are bad. For me they just aren't as good as they should be for the price. For most of them not all. Also a lot of people are of the mind set that if you're gonna buy cigars but stuff you like. And not everyone likes Gurkhas. Just like not everyone likes Acids or Tatuajes or padrons. We all have different tastes.

Two things too do when your wife buys you any cigars:

1. Love her forever.

2. Be grateful she is trying to become involved in your hobby and/or make you happy.

Seriously it the ultimate form of flattery either way
Exactly, well said!!! Most wives don't want anything to do with them or don't want you smoking them so you are lucky in a way.

I think honestly is the best policy. . Say thank you and explain to her that the brand really ain't your cup of tea. It is the thought that counts but no one wants to see money go to waste.. there has been many times I have bought something for my wife and she said thank you and asked for the receipt I rather her get what she wants then see my money go out the window. Be honest can't hurt.

I think there's some room for this, but not today, and probably not for a while.

Though for me, I probably wouldn't want to fight this battle. Just let her know which ones you like more next time and fire the ones she got you up. Can't be that bad. I've had some Gurkhas that weren't the worst cigar.

Had a gross Padron 85th the other day so I can understand why some people may not like them after a dud. I will revisit one again when I want to drop big coin on a smoke.

Rest and low RH is the key to a good padron. Too much RH and it tastes like poop. Too little rest and it will kick your ass. IMHO.

I don't get it...
No I suppose you wouldn't.

I stick to what I said earlier. Not all Gurkas are bad. Smile while you smoke them. Then just send her pictures of great cigars you smoke throughout the year so she has something to draw from.
