Not in my experience. I have have been smoking mostly 100% non-aromatic (flavored) blends. There are big differences to the types of tobacco used and even though some categories of blends use some of the same base baccy they taste nowhere near the same because of the additional "spice" tobaccos.

There are some cigar leaf based blends and there are some very cigar like baccy that do not claim cigar leaf in the makeup.

@3/5king: didn't all cigars kinda taste like cigars when we first started? it took most if us quite a while, and a BUNCH of smokes, to get to this point, and still half of us (myself definitely included) have trouble picking out and describing all the little nuances.

same with pipe. the differences ARE there, but you gotta know where to look. i still personally suck at it, IMHO. but a good strategy to learn is to smoke several differing blends of the same general family. several straight VAs, or VaBurs, or big LAT blends, pick one and run with it for a while. like going on a cab kick, or bourbon, porter, connecticut broadleaf, whatever. go deep into one style that usually interests you, and you start to see the differences.

also, some pirate in my GBD this morning. STILL planning on writing one, but wanted to refresh my senses first and not just fly off notes:

I decided to blend shortcut to mushrooms with pirate make to lessen the weird sweetness I really disliked from shortcut. Smoked my first bowl today and I must say I am very pleased. I went about 50/50 and i still got a little if the sweetness so i think the rest of shortcut pirate will be 60 pirate 40 shortcut.

Yeah I could almost fit a full coin in it, first round didn't smoke so well, I'll have to play with it, plus I think the bowl was bored a little too deep as it goes below the draft hole....well I think that's what it's called do might need some mud

It was an interesting find

Some Manil Burmeuse in a cob. Much better smoke this time after spending a week getting a little humidity. Real nice actually loved it. Thanks so much Josh.

Then I had some of my super stout home blend of black and brown ropes from G&H mixed with some sweeter Virginia and a healthy dose of latakia. Nice cool smoke but knock your socks off stout and heavy on the nicotine. Great way to spend time in the car.
