PS Luxury Navy Flake in my new mini cob. Gonna wait to smoke this through a briar to give a full review but I'm certainly not hating it

My first run at our BOTL June Pipe Tobacco of the Month, Peter Stokkebye Luxury Navy Flake, in one of my Papalia.
First impression: I think this may be my first time really tasting Perique and realizing what it was that I was tasting. There's a noticeable peppery element to this, not too spicy, but definitely something there other than the Virginia!

Had some Pelican in my 320. Its okay. Good, but I will take other oriental and other latakia blends. It had a little astringency and a slightly odd taste left on my tongue after finishing the bowl. Worth the Chase and HTF praise? Not in my book.

Makes me wonder what McClelland Yjinde supreme would taste like mixed with some Macbaren Vintage Syrian. What a coincidence, I have both in hand!

cob full of LNF on the way out of work today:

(trying a first person shot, for all the pipe curious)

fifth bowl for the review, this time fold-n-stuff. for whatever reason, this cob, just this one, is trying to burn out on me. i just have it in mind to either wrestle it into submission of smoke it to extinction. good smoke, though. o)

Day 2 of the BOTL PToM, Peter Stokkebye Luxury Navy Flake, in my Savinelli 320 Marron Glace
I left a flake out to dry overnight, and it was near crumbly this morning, but not so much that I couldn't still fold and stuff. The one flake only filled the cavernous bowl of the 320 about half way. I changed too many variables to really compare anything (thicker briar, larger diameter bowl, less tobacco, dried overnight) but this smoked a LOT easier for me. Cooler. No bite no matter how hard/fast I puffed. Yesterday felt very "plugged" and today was much more like smoking a loose tobacco. I got much more sweetness yesterday, where today is predominantly pepper/spice. So much pepper that it gave a definite nose tickle on the snork. Curious to see what tomorrow holds!

Day 2 of PS LNF, this time in a briar. Nice natural sweetness with a lingering spice that I really enjoy. I get some subtle creaminess too. I still prefer the twist flake but this definitely has a spot on my regular rotation

Frog Morton cellar in a new to me Pete system standard. Both delivered yesterday by the man in brown. Thanks smokingpipes for taking care of that pesky disposable income!
And while I'm not really a fan of the aromatics, as a rule, this is treating me mighty fine.

I had to google FMC as an aromatic. I had no idea after smoking some of it the other week. It's definitely less so than the other aros I've had.

PS Luxury Twist Flake in my poker. It has a slight caramel flavor that goes really well with today's coffee. I have been practicing the fold and stuff with flakes and like you guys have said, stuffing is way more satisfying that rubbing. :ccool:

yeah, froggy and all his ilk are referred to as "crossover" blends as they are lat-based english, BUT blended down with cav, and sometimes flavorings or additives. froggy is very soft on it. if you want a MUCH wetter and more forward "crossover", try JFH shortcut to mushrooms. you want less, try a standard english. like nightcap. o)

Brewin: did you get the Luxury Twist as an addition to the BoTM? I have both on a combined order with another brother because I wanted to taste a pure Virginia along with one that includes the perique for comparison.

I bought it a few months back along with the Luxury Bulls Eye flake, just got the BoTM a few days ago. They are all really good, I need to revisit the Bulls Eye which has been my least favorite of the three so far. I definitely prefer the Luxury Twist Flake but the Navy Flake is a close second.
