Real only for me. I love the smell and have always had one as a kid. I love Christmas though and I get super nostalgic and happy during that season.

FAKE
Here is why
Years back we got a permit to go into the mountains to cut our own tree. Spent 6 hours driving around and walking to find the perfect one. Ended up settling on something mediocre because our permit was for a specific breed and they were htf. Fast forward to Christmas morning. Kids come down and we start in on the presents. All of a sudden we see some baby spiders. A few baby spiders turned into a billion baby spiders upon further inspection. On the trunk of the tree a huge nest decided to hatch. Needless to say it was insane trying to remove micro spiders from every present and the rest of the morning was spent on the front patio.

I grew up with fake, my daughter & wife insist on a real one each year; usually one we've cut from a tree farm.

I recall my grandparents having a silver aluminum tree, it sat on a mirrored base & rotated with colored lights & played music.

OMG, I have an old aunt who STILL busts out the silver tree and the spotlight with the color wheel every year. Lol, I bet she could probably get some good money from some retro hipster for that thing now.

We went back and forth whole I was a kid, now I'm all fake. Pre-lit, easy assembly, back in the garage every year. Can't deal with those needles getting stuck in every nook and cranny. If I want the nostalgia smell I'll get a pine tree from the car wash and hang it on a branch.

I always liked real trees but I got tired of cleaning needles up for 9 months after getting rid of it... and hauling it up and down the stairs... and getting rid of it... so we went fake last year.

fake, as it is less clean up, less chance of inviting wildlife in, and more opportunity to put ornaments up. we have always spent more time on the decorations (and the memories attached to each) than anything else.

Damn. When I first saw this thread, I thought we were going to have help decide if the tree someone sent you, from a guy who swears he got the tree from a guy who lives near the tree farm, was real or fake.

When I lived in my apartment I had a fake 3 ft tree that i would sit on a table in the front window. From the outside it looked like a full sized tree i miss that lil sucker. I grew up with real trees my mom wouldn't have it any other way I still have to go with her to get hers I'm the muscle. For me tho give me a little fake one that I can prop up on a table and fool people as they pass by.

HAHAHAH.. they best part about the real tree is going to pick it out with the fam.... especially if you cut it down yourself. There have been years that I make a cocktail before I put it the stand because momma always says it's crooked and I gotta fix that sucker.

Wish we did a real tree but alas, because of "allergies" we put up the plastic that looks "really real." I make a cocktail because I mourn not being all natural with the tree, CigarSaint.

Allergies are a legitimate reason that's for sure.. You still gotta put the fake one up.. an excuse for the cocktail and some dean Martin.

I always grew up with a large real tree but my wife is allergic to pine trees so the past few years we have used a fake one. It is a hell of alot easier with a fake tree but I miss the house smelling like pine.

I love the real trees. I like the smell and the feel. I do think that having a Fake one is good if you can find one that you like and would like to have every year. I just like the ability to have something new looking. Even the way I put on the things are not always the same. I was there for 15 years where everything had to be the same and would spend a couple of days setting up the tree. Glad I can do it now in a couple of hours from cutting the tree, to having it all set up in most cases...
