So my buddy @Jp1979 had some Puros Express Bespoke custom rolls that had been dropped and had pretty gnarly wrapper damage. I have been dragging ass re-wrapping them wanting to get a little better before tackling the job since these are listed to be CC customs. Got 8 re-wrapped tonight and have 2 left to get done. Would have finished but ran out of glue and too lazy to make more. 4 wrapped with @USHOG Sumatra and 4 with Ecuadorian Habano ligero from Leaf Only.

Anyone else that's snagged a bag of the'08 Broadleaf from LO care to share their thoughts? I've gone through a bit of the leaf now and I'm just wondering what others impressions have been.

Like how much filler did you get? How much binder? Was any of it actually legit wrapper grade leaf?

I didn't even see the '08 broadleaf. I'm guessing you snagged some? As far as broadleaf goes, I think I would prefer something a little more fresh but don't have any specific reason to believe that besides the little marbles rolling in my head telling me so.

On a completely unrelated note, I was able to get 10 bunches in the mold in about an hour tonight, way faster than I have ever done that before. Practice has been paying off. It will probably take about 2 hours to wrap them all tomorrow which is about half the time total it used to take me. Wooohoooo. It's the small things really...

Yea I grabbed 1lb a few months back to see what it was about. Just seems like it's mostly filler grade but isn't even frog legged. The couple wrappers I managed to get so far have been really dark and tasty but I was hoping to get a bit more or at least some solid binder leaf.
I haven't gone through all the leaf yet but the DW1 from LO or PA Oscuro from WLT gets my vote as the better choice for broadleaf.

For about the same price I actually prefer the PA broadleaf from LO to what WLT has. It's shinier (assuming more oils) and has a richer chocolate flavor and priced very similar. I need to try the DW1 from LO still, but been so happy with the PA haven't had a reason to stray. The San Andres and Ecuadorian Habano ligero wrappers from LO are quickly becoming favorites though. Have a great look and are very tasty.

They're pretty similar but the CT has more mossy oak character compared to the PA from what I remember. Do love that SA and Ecuadorian Habano though. So much easier to work with too compared to broadleaf.

My first attempt. Came out wayyyy bigger than I envisioned. Don't think I did too bad on the cap.
I rolled a second one wich was more the size I am going for. Totally screwed the cap on that one though.
I got the azucarodo kit from WL.
Think I'm hooked.
Not bad at all for a first attempt!!! It's very addicting.

The only thing I don't like with this kit is how small the wrappers are. I can only get two sticks per leaf.

Also, do you think I will need to get a mold to get my sticks down to around a fifty gauge like I want? The second one i rolled I used a little less filler and rolled a little tighter but still didn't get it as small as I would like.

A mold isn't necessary to get a smaller ring gauge. Go by feel. Grab your bunch in your hand and make sure it is the size you want your stick. Or just roll more cigars. The more you practice, the easier it is to get a feel for how much filler you need for the size of stick you are wanting. Instead of a mold, you can wrap your bound bunches in strips of paper towel. Once you get to the head, hold the tail that forms and roll the bunch a few times. This will tighten down on the bunch and act like a mold.

Going way back in my photos, here is a panatela or petite lancero I rolled without a mold

Beautiful man. Here is a size comparison. I rolled my bushes in a piece of paper and stuck it in a slightly tight spot. I think I am just gonna go ahead and invest in a mold. Only problem with eBay or etsy is that no one lists any sizes. Don't laugh at my cap on the second one.... Lol it was almost catastrophic.

Check the molds on leafonly.com. Decent prices and you know what size you are getting. Don't stress the looks at first, if it smokes well and tastes good, the rest will come with practice.

Hoping patience will prevail and I can let them rest. Am letting them sit out in an old cigar box to dry before tossing in my Humidor. It helps thst I have both my kids today so no time to smoke. And in the meantime I guess I will just keep rolling.
Thanks for the inspiration.
