Nah, if you're born in the South you just complain about the weather. It is like people in LA complaining about traffic. You know there are technically alternatives, but there really isn't an alternative.
I have looked at moving to Colorado, Virginia, Oregon, and even NY. But really, I'm three hours from the beach and the mountains. I can be in Nashville or Atlanta in less than a day. Plus, I get thirteen hours of sunshine during the spring and summer. I really haven't found anywhere that compares besides maybe SoCal. The price of living makes that undesirable.
So, we stay in the south and grumble about the heat, humidity, and mosquitoes.
Even the "cheap" areas aren't cheap now. I sold and moved even further out. They followed me. There has been a 10% population growth in the past three years. Now it is just as expensive as the place I left. I thought about downsizing, but I can't get a smaller place with the same mortgage. I'm stuck for a decade at least.
The problem is, they aren't bringing big city amenities with the growth. It is gentrification in the bigger cities pushing people further and further out. I wouldn't mind it if there was decent restaurants and a couple of music venues coming along with these folks. If I could get a library bigger than a postage stamp with books printed in the last decade, that would be great.
Nope they're just giving us suburban hell in the middle of former farms. You get 500 Brees cracker box houses, but no culture.

My 8th day at the cabinet shop today. Nice people working there and the owner is cool too.
I still cannot understand them most of the time though. THICK southern draw.
I hear, "hey ma ya gon go gi tha the sanda fo mah?" Me: "yeah, that's cool."
It's gonna take some time. Normal phrases I've used my whole life are gone. Interesting basically learning a new language.
Off to ATL to pick up the wife in the morning. These early morning trips are pretty smooth.
