Guys, we are seeing hairline cracks from shipping. Please inspect your cigars when you buy them. The cracks are very hard to see before lighting and expand when lit. If you see any damage that concerns you, the first rule is to return them to the retailer for an exchange or refund. I will make good on any Tubo cigar that is uncut and unsmoked.

If you smoked it and had a problem, I'm sorry. Hit me up for a free stick the next time I roll through your town. I'm not trying to use or take advantage of any of my customers.

Pete
Thanks Pete. Will do

I had a few and they all cracked but not so bad that I couldnt smoke it. Other than that it was one fine smoke with some really great flavor.

I have had great luck with my Tubos so far.

I had a few reds with shipping damage on the cap, but nothing past where I would usually cut.

The saddest part for me is when I smoke the red I just really long for a OG Westie, I dunno what it was about that cigar.... But come to think of it the last westie I had from the cab was split head to foot, still managed to smoke most of it though! :)

I'm 0-4 on the reds. All have split on me. The taste is amazing, but it was difficult to smoke.
I've never returned smokes for exchange before. Maybe I'll take the rest out of the tubes and give them a couple of months and see what happens.
The winter up here can't be helping them at all.
.....take them out of the tubes and let them rest. The splitting issue should be solved.

I asked my tobacconist if he's heard any complaints about the reds and he hasn't heard about an undue number of issues...

Unfortunately, some of these boxes may have been mishandled at some point between Pete and you.

I have 3 or 4 red tubos and a box of the black. I haven't tried any yet as it's cold up here in Central WI as I am waiting for at least spring. I did try a Drac in December and it had draw issues to which I was disappointed. As long as that was the only one that I have issues with I won't be too disappointed as I understand that manufacturer's can have an occasional snafu.

This winter is tough. The measures I'm taking are:

1) I have a full-home humidifier now, actually picked it up last winter. I have to fill it once or twice a day (when it's really cold/dry), but it keeps the whole house near 65%, and it cost less than $100. This obviously helps cigars, but it helps our health even more--I typically get nose bleeds all winter, but have not had any this year.

2) The room I leave my cigars in is usually like 50-55 degrees in the winter, but now I leave that door open to let the heat from the house in, and it's over 60 in there now. I know that some people don't think cold alone effects cigars, but last winter I had dozens of cracked cigars by spring, and can't attribute it to anything else.

I have 12 Red Tubos right now, 2 arrived with very minor cracks, but nothing obscene. They have not gotten worse, and I'm storing them w/o caps to get them to my preferred 65%.

Dang, it would be pretty awesome to not have to worry about humidification in my whole house... It would be like living in the DR, haha.

My main problem is overhumidification during the warm months.

I do the same thing with a full house humidifier. I have a humdior upstairs with about 200 sticks and a coolidor downstairs. I just setup my small hydra in coolidor and it's working great. In the summertime when it gets muggy I will take out the hydra and use my 65% beads to suck up the moisture.

I will try taking off the caps and that should help. I haven't really inspected the cigars in the tubos but will check them out tonight.

You posted some really good tips, thanks.

oh, just to be clear, I still have the awesome Heartfelt beads in my tupperdors. But they don't have to "work" nearly as hard and recover very quickly because the humidity in the house isn't 20%.

I bought 2 red tubos and the wrappers seem ok at the moment. I took them out of the tubes and am letting them rest in the humi. And thanks Pete for your consideration!

Just smoked my first back tubo today. A great stick when I was able to get it to smoke right. The first third was awesome. Then I had some burning, drawing, and had to relight the hell out of it for the last third. I finally gave up and chucked it. I'm hoping the rest of my box will get better with more rest.

Interesting reading here. I bought my first red today...was going to smoke it tomorrow. Sounds like it might be better to sit for awhile. What would I do without this message board!?!?!?!?!

I guess smoke a cigar that tastes great with small cracks?
