Padrón's weren't trying to sell, but they were offered some money (a bit south of $100 million) a few years ago by Altadis.
I'm no expert on valuing companies, but the Padrón's are one of the more valuable independent companies given their name, brands, factory, farms and stockpiles of tobacco. Illusione has a name and brands, but nothing else.
What really throws a curve ball is how much the CAO was allegedly bought for back in 07, nine figures is what I've been told and a significant amount more than just 100 million. This was a company with no farm, no fields, no tobacco reserves (other than the Escaparte, which isn't/wasn't) much), just a name.
