It's a funny joke, but not many if any? Cigar companies could command that kind of money. Made a large company with many brands, but not one brand unless it included lots and lots of land could get that money! The margins in cigars is not that great.
Padron and Fuente come to mind. :cbig:

Padrón's weren't trying to sell, but they were offered some money (a bit south of $100 million) a few years ago by Altadis.

I'm no expert on valuing companies, but the Padrón's are one of the more valuable independent companies given their name, brands, factory, farms and stockpiles of tobacco. Illusione has a name and brands, but nothing else.

What really throws a curve ball is how much the CAO was allegedly bought for back in 07, nine figures is what I've been told and a significant amount more than just 100 million. This was a company with no farm, no fields, no tobacco reserves (other than the Escaparte, which isn't/wasn't) much), just a name.

Padron would command a LOT. They have enough tobacco for over 5 years in storage not to mention the huge factory and the second one they are building plus all they property they own. They have a lot.

I did write a blog post on my thoughts on this. Considering what a rough week the cigar industry had last week: Sal Fontana passing, Gary Hyams leaving CAO, NYC Outdoor Smoking Ban, and Raleigh Outdoor Smoking ban, I thought the fun the guys had with this joke was exactly what the industry needed as a "pick me up".

Here is my post.
