Smoke it backwards

You might see a bit of a difference, but I doubt it would be anything too significant. Best thing to do if you wanna compare is take 2 cigars from the same box and try it. Smoke 1 the right way and the second one backwards side by side. If you do it with a cigar you don't smoke all the time the differences might be a little easier to find.
sorry to contradict you mate, but there is actually a reason that most reviews are done in third. In French each third of a cigar has a name which actually explains the whole three segments.
First third is called Le Foin. This means hay, it's supposed to be the part of the cigar where the tastes are more subtle.
Second third is called Le Divin, This means heavenly, it's supposed to be the best part of the cigar with the taste is the more balanced and refined.
Last third is called Le Purin. This means manure, it's supposed to be the part where the flavors are harsh and more peppery with the tar building up.

If the French naming each third is really the reason why reviews are done in thirds (which I can't find anything supporting that), then why aren't those names used in every cigar review?
Taste is subjective. Ive had some cigars not change at all, some change only once, and some change almost with every puff. Does that mean they aren't real or good cigars because they don't follow what the French say? No.
Smoking a cigar backwards, resulting in the wrapper coming unraveled will affect the flavor. The air reaching the binder and filler will be different, and the wrapper may not even factor into the smoke/flavor.
The only real way to smoke a cigar backwards is to put the wrapper on in reverse....but you won't know the filler, and perhaps binder, is backwards. It will look like a normal roll.

Thanks for the info... I have never heard that before, and cannot disagree more with the French... I have smoked a lot of cigars that are very strong up front and have smoked a lot of cigars that are absolutely amazing at the last 1/3. (2010 and 2011 My Father Limited come to mind, as well as LFD's first salamone, Tatuaje Brex and Opus BBMF)

I hadve never hear that in a long filler cigar..the leaves were torn into smaller pieces. they are LONG meaing end to end, so that is my take on it.

What's wrong with the French explanation? Made sense to me. - The first part is light, the middle is balance & the last third is stronger/more intense. Does this apply to every case? Of course not, but in general it's pretty accurate.
Anyway - My wife still butchers the occasional cigar with her hack methods & impatience when cutting a cigar. If it's particularly bad, she just flips it around & smokes it from the foot instead. While she thought this would be common sense, I found it quite peculiar, so I tried her cigar. I didn't notice any significant difference at all - neither did she.
It's not like the flavors are all going to hit you in reverse or something.

Exactly, the leaves are the same from top to bottom, so either way, it's the same cigar.
the reason we experience changes is due to tar build up.
Let me make a reference, when you light a joint, it is just paper around pot. By the time it's half way done it is sticky and gooey with "resin" or tar. This is whay they last half of a joint is stronger than the first half. Or so I've heard

Many years ago, before I knew what a "real" cigar was, I smoked machine-mades. Those usually come with a hole in the cap. But I bought one brand (I can't remember the name) which had no such hole. At the time, I had no idea that people owned things like cutters or punches. I contemplated making my own hole, perhaps with a car key (I was in a bar), but I thought that would be messy. So I lit the cap and inhaled from the foot.
The cigar held together fine, and I repeated this with two others with equally non-catastrophic results.

I stepped on a cigar recently and basically broke it in the middle but the tear
was obviously uneven. I ended up smoking the top/regular half first and it was strong as chit!:headroll: Kind of a shock because of the brand, at some point later today I intend to some the remainder from the foot so i'll let you guys know...
