How does a documented 9% increase in sales in 2011 translate to the "worst sales in a decade"?
That mathematically does not make sense.

It seems to me if 2010 had an 8% loss and 2011 had a 9% increase, they've recovered 2010's loss and chipped into 2009's.

Technically if production was reduced 9% gain could be a mix of increased sales and reduced cost. Unfortunately we are talking pretty broad right now. Would be interesting to see what a sales mix and export $ actually was.

Also have to figure in KB took the mrs. Last year...would account for 6 of the 9 percent in sales just there alone.

I believe Ecuadorian tobacco is the closest thing in flavor profile to Cuban tobacco. Could this be why Robaina is there growing tobacco? How many of us could tell if they used Ecuadorian filler in a CC?,......I bet hardly anyone. Just my thoughts,.....
Personally I feel it runs deeper than that. The biggest market for cigars these days is the US something Cuban growers just can't tap setting up shop in Ecuador gives the Robaina family a way to exploit a loop hole in the Cuban embargo and possibly remit some much needed revenue to Cuba.
