Cruises are the way to go for a vacation if you ask me. There really isn't much you have to worry about at all. Royal Caribbean is top notch and you'll enjoy the ship. I don't believe they had a cigars under the stars thing on our ship but that sounds nice. The cigar lounge they had inside was dead when I went to it but may have been active other hours. I honestly didn't have one cigar while on our trip, I was way to active and have fun.

Make sure to try out the Flow Rider! That is where I spent most of my time while on the ship. Also if you can get out on the wave on your own, that means you can join in on the "advanced" morning sessions. Those sessions bring a lot less people meaning more ride time.

As said earlier, when in St. Maarten, visit the Dutch side and go to the Sunset Bar & Grill. You can watch the planes come in right over everyone head, and they will have the times posted for you on a surf board. Then head to the fence and hang on when one is taking off, damn good time.

Starting this Saturday, ZippoGeek is out of the building for a week. Four years removed from our last vacation, the wife and I are taking the boy on a 7-day cruise Saturday for his graduation, along with some old friends. First stop is Nassau in the Bahamas on Sunday. Sadly, the Graycliff Cigar Factory is only open M-F! :banghead: At least there's "Cigars Under the Stars" on the upper deck every night. Not sure if I feel like dragging a herf-a-dor with me, so I think we'll just shell out $18 ea for Macanudos.

The ship itself is the world's largest passenger vessel, Oasis of the Seas -- longer than a Nimitz class super carrier! :jawdrop: I'm thinking there's gonna be Internet access, albeit at a steep price. So my contact with BOTL will probably be limited. I'm gonna miss you guys...
I have sailed on that very ship. And it is absolutely awesome. Fantastic ship, and be prepared to get lost at least once. Have fun!

St. Maarten = guava berry coladas! :hungover:
Find the LCDH in Marigot if you have the time. Will be on opposite of island from where you land buy a short cab ride. I was just there in February and Carole had some gems hiding out!

There's also a small restaurant called the yacht club a short walk from the LCDH right on the water where some locals told me they like. We ate right on the pier, looked out at mega million yachts and then smoked a cigar at our table at the end. A fine experience :)

Have fun

When in ports I started wearing my headphones so the riff raff wouldn't try and sell everything in their huts to me. I usually had a cigar with me and I stopped doing that as well because then they will try and sell you all of their fakes which in Nassau is all they have. Dealing with the natives can be a PIA so even if you aren't listening to music they will see your headphones and won't bother you.

Another tip on the ship....I know you that you get FREE FOOD in the main dining room but try the Specialty Restaurants on the ship...they cost about $25 p/p but they are so worth it esp. the steakhouses. You're actually getting a meal like you would at Ruth Chris or comparable and you can order what you want....I ordered the biggest Ribeye and Lobster Tail...3 shrimp cocktails and other assorted items on the menu and WOW....great meals. I do this on every Cruise Line...Princess, Celebrity....Cunard...RC and HAL and every cruise line has great Specialty Restaurants...even Carnival but I don't sail on them anymore as they have too many kidlets and drunk 20 somethings....big PIA. If you go to St. Thomas get your booze there...half price and each person can bring back two 750 ml bottles so between all of you that will fill up your bar with the best.

Have a great time!!! Not a fan of Nassau on a cruise. Like @Cigary43 said, the riffs try to get a hold of you to take you to their huts and sell you their Cuban fakes. Don't get me wrong, some of their stuff is nice. But don't get suckered into it. If you're not doing an excursion, go a block into town and walk around. The only ones that would bother you there is maybe a hairdresser or two that would want to braid the girl's hair. Other than that, it's a whole new world there and people leave you alone. More pleasant time to shop and enjoy everything.

Never been to St. Maarten, but have seen plenty of youtube videos like this one with the fun you could have holding on to a fence lmao.

Ohh, and hope your mailbox will survive a week of non-stop mailbox attacks.....:sneaky::sneaky::sneaky:

PS - save your $$$$ and buy yourself a decent sized herf-a-dor for your sticks to bring with you on the trip. And take a lot of pics!!!! Oh and have fun!!!

Congrats on the vacation man, my brother who is a photo-journalist for our State News channel did a behind the scenes story of that vessel. According to him it costs $1 million in fuel each time. "Cigars Under the Stars" sounds like a trip!! Also...there's always room for cigars. Grab yourself a sturdy pelican case or xikar travel humidor from a B&M (since time is a commodity). If it were me I would pack cigars first, before clean underwear lol.

Thanks for all the well-wishes and advice you guys! I bought a 10-ct. herf-a-dor yesterday with some Bovedas, just in the nick of time -- you all beat me into it (didn't take much) ;) (y). Packed some Caldwells, San Lotanos and Fuentes for my son and I. Can't wait. Talk to you all soon.
