this is always a tough one. For me, I would have a hard time profiting off a hobby, especially on such a small scale. If I sell something, I do it at cost, mainly because I could care less about making an extra few dollars, especially off of someone who is a BOTL. I feel fortunate that I do not have to do this to fund my vices.

I will never be able to consider cigars "collectible", because I intend that every cigar I buy will get smoked by me or a friend. These aren't mickey mantle rookie cards, cigars are a disposable item. To me, that is what makes it different. It's kind of like going to a bakery on thanksgiving, and buying every last pumpkin pie and then selling it for twice the cost. To me its a whack move. But thats jus my .02.

If I was Pete Johnson, I would re-release each dress box, without cigars for $25 each. I would continually stock these. They would sell like hotcakes, and put an end to all the nonsense.

Bless me Father, for I have sinned. Many weeks ago, despairing that I would never be able to try a FFP. I bought a box of 'em on eBay for $250. As I could probably have predicted, a mess of 'em turned up at various online retailers a week or so later, and I wound up with 12 singles at MSRP. So I put my unopened box up on eBay. It's on there right now, in fact. In deference to the BOTL ethic, even though I paid $250, I started bidding at $169, which is about the MSRP, with free shipping. As I type this, bidding stands at $207.44. Sure, I'm hoping to break even on the original (bad) deal I made. But I'm not holding a gun to anyone's head. If the universe of LP lovers held fast to the notion that these should never be sold above MSRP, I'd get just that one bid, and I'd be OK with that. But the invisible hand of the free market is working its will, and I'm along for the ride. Hail Mary, full of grace...

Gouger on ebay or OLH? That's hilarious... It's like the bourbon exchange... Pappy goes for 400-700+ and any of the BTAC goes for 200+... I usually laugh at people when they tell me their selling price and I tell them I'll get it at msrp locally.

Do clothing stores turn you away because you want to buy more than one pair of jeans and it wouldn't be fair to someone else if they didn't get a pair? Please! That's what's wrong these days. Too many whiners and everything has to be fair. Can't leave anyone out. Business is business and life isn't fair. If people don't get what they want, when they want AND how much they want to pay for it ,they bitch and cry like little kids. I'm really sorry if I offend anybody but after awhile it gets really old and down right nauseating. If you don't like it, don't buy it! What happened to cigar smoking being a wonderful and sophisticated way to enjoy life and relax with a great smoke with good friends?? Is it all about chasing the newest "skull" cigar and horror boxes and idolizing cigar makers like they're rock stars? I sincerely hope this phase passes.

It's very simple...Anything that is made in limited quantities and is in high demand will sell higher than retail. Rare cars, baseball cards, and cigars.I can't imagine why it would upset anyone, as any price paid is simply the market value. Nobody holds a gun to the buyer's head, it's what he feels is a fair price to him.

Agreed. The invisible hand works quite well. Its hard to understand why some get so upset by "Market Price" pricing.
