i much prefer tea myself since I try to steer clear of caffeine and i love herbal stuff and oolong/matcha mainly. I go through phases where i'll drink multiple cups a day or none at all though.

have you every done straight powder tea ryan? where it's just mixed into the water and you drink it in it's entirety?

No, doesn't sound very good

I got into tea after my first China trip. Introduced to whole leaf from the go. No turning back:)

well im not talking about some cheap imitation product. in traditional Japanese tea ceremony they actually grind whole leave to powder and whisk it into the water because apparently it retains way more of the health benefits and has a purer flavor that way. I havent don it either but it's always intrigued me.

all i keep at home is whole leaf oolong and matcha and then some jasmine/lavender/chamomile/ginger/orange peel that i mix in depending upon how i feel

I guess I've been incorrectly calling loose leaf green tea matcha all this time too because matcha is specifically the ground green tea powder :/
I really only drink red and oolong. There are many oolong I have gotten that I like but specifically rou gui, dahong pao, tieguanyin, and a few others. Good wiki read

I haven't really gotten into specific types of oolong or grean tea so I don't really know what you're talking about. generally I'll go to trader joes or fresh market and just get what looks interesting.

Still on my first batch of teas. Have yet to really read up on the different teas of each type. I need to go get some lavander to mix into my teas. Hadnt thought that far ahead yet. Love a cup of earl grey with lavander in it each morning.

scroll down to varieties. Oolongs are all different based on strain and region

The more interesting read is Da hong pao and how the original plants are government protected, only yielding small amounts each year that go to the rich and powerful ONLY

So, since I've sent out a ton of tea and have been called the tea bomber, I figured it'd time to share how I make tea everyday

My works:

Tea pot with screen for leaves

Fancy new water boiler with individual settings(*see bottom if this if you don't have this)

Tea amount, varies by person but here's a starting point.

Green tea with Jasmine from rdomfoto today :)

Heat up water, pour over tea

Pour this first pot out immediately. This is called cleaning the tea. Very important if you're going to drink a lot.

Refill the pot, I typically do right to the point where tea is fully submerged

Let steep(sit there) for 3-5 minutes. Pour into a cup for you and your boss and enjoy :)

*at home I do this same process but with a clay/ceramic tea pot that has some holes inside of stout to strain tea and a sauce pan to boil water. Results are the same

Hope this helps some folks enjoy loose tea. If you would like to add any insight feel free since I'm sure there's other methods!

what kind of tea is this? ive never seen loose tea before

Thats a green tea. You can find it online or some grocery stores if they have a health foods section. Basically the stuff in tea bags is loose leaf chopped up into basically dust
