Have you tried deploying a folder under stress? They're significantly slower than a fixed blade, and a lot easier to fumble.

My EDC is usually this Kershaw Leek. Very lightweight and thin

If I want something a little sturdier for hiking, etc... I have a Kershaw Blur

The major selling point for me on both was the I could switch the pocket clip to make the a tip up carry
