NC is cool, not sure if i would recommend it though. thats probably because i live here (grass is greener on the other side type of thing). not a terrible place to be. Raleigh or Charlotte is your best bet if look at NC.

personally i would think about studying abroad....which is different from studying a broad btw
Wife and I are planning a move to the Raleigh area of NC this year. We've both lived in NJ all our lives and are looking for a change of pace and better weather. Kids are still relatively young (7 & 3) and feel like it's now or never for us. We've visited a few times and really enjoyed the area, but still plan on renting for a year before making the commitment on buying a home. Can anyone who lives in the area give us any pointers or what to expect when we move down? Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Raleigh is crowded and Cary is the same way. Durham is the gritty part of the triangle with a rough reputation. It also has a big reputation for food. Chapel Hill is hippy and liberal territory. The music scene is pretty cool though.

Property taxes are a beast in Orange county. That raises the cost of living in the area, bit Hillsborough is getting a reputation as an artist's town. Plus it still has a cool small town vibe.

What about Wake County? Apex is the town we've been looking into.

Apex was voted one of the top twenty places to live in the country. They have decent schools and you will be surrounded by relocated northerners.

I live further west and the last time I was in Apex was probably fifteen years ago.
