Guess we're a little spoiled on the Rogue front here, but I've actually grown to resent them a little. There's no way Dead guy, and Shakespeare stout, and Rogues other regular releases ought to be selling for $7+ per 22, when other local-ish breweries (Ninkasi, 10 barrels, Lagunitas, Laughing Dog, Deschutes etc.) can be had for $4-$5. Gotta look out for the local folk who supported you 15+ years ago.:argue:

Gonna go w/ a big +1 on this as well...

I don't reach for Rogue anymore when in the stores...but I wouldn't hesitate to pick em' up at the garage sale you mentioned. Prices at those events are crazy good! A buddy of mine and I split about 5-6 cases on different stuff last year from their Newport Brewery, and I'd do that again in a heartbeat.

As you mentioned though....their prices are a little higher, and there's just plain better stuff on the shelves here locally. A lot come across to me as lighter in flavor, and maybe just more "watered down" is how I'd best describe it.

My favorite Rogues have been the Chocolate Stout, Dead Guy (as an every day drinker), and the Captain Sig Northwestern Ale.

And sometimes, especially when it comes to beer/cigars, it's good to be spoiled!

Nice pickups Larry! The Bal single barrel is very good, but that's the only one that I've tried among these. How is that rum? I'm getting into rum lately but have never tried those.

Yes... And I like it! It is exactly like eating a maple bar with bacon on top. It was a little thinner than I hoped, which makes sense being an ale and not a porter. That said, it is a heavier beer that makes you fill up.

Also, I really enjoyed it with a cigar. I have 3 bottles left for myself and will probably have everyone with a cigar.
Had my first one last night and Matt hit the nail on the head. Not an everyday beer but it was very interesting. The after taste is really good. Went great with a black tat. I also would probably not drink one without a cigar.

Let's just call them early Christmas presents....
Nice picks, Larry. I grabbed a bottle of that Straight Wheat a few months back, and it was a really interesting whisky. Think that one and the High West Double Rye are the front runners for best "off-beat" spirits I've had this year.

Very cool! I always like to look at the labels of the Balvenie 15yo when I go to liquor stores. They bottle them based on taste, with age only a restrictive qualifier, not an affirmative one. I have a bottle of 15yo that is actually 18yo, and an acquaintance in Germany picked one up that was 21yo! In theory it shouldn't matter, but it is a fun bit of info. I also have one that the label looks to indicate it is a 14yo (which is illegal to release), but the distillery claims that the handwriting is sloppy (this is before the dates were typed...) and they it MIGHT be a 17yo version. They did leave open the possibility that it is a fluke bottle though, and is only a 14yo. I didn't notice it prior to opening otherwise it could be a collector's item. I still have the bottle, I think... just not the contents.

Great minds think alike! I described it to a friend as "fun" to pair this with a cigar, and he looked at me quizzically, and asked "Fun? How is it fun?" Maybe fun isn't the best word, but it is definitely a unique experience.

Yummy beer, Winter Necessities, Hangover Cure, More beer.

I've never had the SUE, but I don't live far from the Yazoo brewery and have loved everything I've had there so I figured it was as good a time as any to try it.

So jealous of you... I love this brewery only because the guy is from MS and they just so happen to put out excellent beer  I'd love to do a brewery tour one day.

Be on the lookout for Fortuitous from Yazoo. I don't have a lot of info but I believe it's a sour Sue or some type of blend.
