No pics cause I'm tearing into it already, but today I went wine shopping. [UPDATED: added brief tasting notes to whatever didn't make it through the night.]

2009 Hartford Russian River Valley Zinfandel (Fruity, with heavy oaking on the back end that takes time to open up. Pleasantly surprised to find the same fruitiness in a Zinfandel as you find in the great Pinots from the same region.)

2009 Ridge Lytton Springs Zin/Petite Sirah Blend (Always one of my favorites, tons of flavors, a little dry, but velvety in how it not only coats your palate but your entire mouth on the finish.)

2005 Cold Heaven Syrah

2010 Jaffurs Petite Sirah

2009 Biale Petite Sirah Punishers (Intense, incredible Petite Sirah. Awesome depth of character and dark fruits. Jammy enough you almost want a spoon to drink it.)

2009 Cuvee Vatican Chateauneuf-Du-Pape (Soft, elegant with plenty of raspberry, cherry, blackberry and a touch of tobacco. Impressive.)

Five 12-packs of Cheerwine!

Ok, not an alcoholic beverage, but hopefully other brothers from NC will understand how great Cheerwine is. Living in DC, I can't get it easily or cheaply, so I brought back a ton from our weekend in Durham.

Also brought back a four-pack of Duchesse de Bourgogne.

Ha, that stuff is all over the place here in SC. Never had it but maybe I'll give it a shot.

Testing the waters on scotch tonight got a small bottle of johnnie walker red label.

I wouldn't call J Dub Red Scotch per se.....but the bright side is......if you love that......just wait til you give a Single Malt Scotch a try! :pokemyeye

That said, I used to enjoy the Black. The Red is mix-worthy only IMO.

Ehhh... If you don't care for the Red Label, don't let it discourage you from Scotch. Around here at least, you can find 50ml bottles of some great single malts (Glenlivet 12 year old, Glenfiddich, Macallan, etc) for a few bucks a piece, that will give you a MUCH better idea of what Scotch is about. Also, within the world of Scotch Whisky, styles vary RADICALLY, like the typical profile from the isle of Islay, whose whisky tends to be very heavy on phenolic iodine and peat smoke, unlike the famous malts from Speyside which tend to be fruitier, and more floral.
