So, since I've sent out a ton of tea and have been called the tea bomber, I figured it'd time to share how I make tea everyday

My works:

Tea pot with screen for leaves

Fancy new water boiler with individual settings(*see bottom if this if you don't have this)

Tea amount, varies by person but here's a starting point.

Green tea with Jasmine from rdomfoto today :)

Heat up water, pour over tea

Pour this first pot out immediately. This is called cleaning the tea. Very important if you're going to drink a lot.

Refill the pot, I typically do right to the point where tea is fully submerged

Let steep(sit there) for 3-5 minutes. Pour into a cup for you and your boss and enjoy :)

*at home I do this same process but with a clay/ceramic tea pot that has some holes inside of stout to strain tea and a sauce pan to boil water. Results are the same

Hope this helps some folks enjoy loose tea. If you would like to add any insight feel free since I'm sure there's other methods!

No prob guys. I should add that you can boil more water and make many more pots with same leaves. Amount depends on type but call it 4-8 pots

I'll be watching this thread with great interest. As a Brit I live on tea, mostly Twinings English Breakfast, something that confused the marines I was working with in Helmand a lot. What confused them even more was when I asked them where their kettle (what we call the water boiler pictured above) was because every British household has one in the kitchen and it seems to be a bit more of specialised piece of hardware in the US.

Don't drink an awful lot of loose leaf tea but I should probably broaden my palette a bit.

I have been a coffee junkie for quite a while, but I mostly stick with the big box coffee ground beans... I have been looking to take the step into teas (my wife is an avid tea drinker) but don't want to go with the "big box" teas. I'll keep an eye on this thread, not only for me, but for the wife as well. Thanks for the info "Mad Tea Bully Bomber" aka Chef!

Thank goodness this thread wasn't about how to properly "tea bag".

I also want to clarify that the tea Ryan is using is green tea with dried flowers from the Jasmine plant and I did NOT send him some tea along with a stripper named Jasmine.

Ducttapegonewild (can I call you ducttape for short?) There's an excellent series on the Chow channel called "Obsessives" and they are 14-20 minute videos of people who specialize/obsess over different areas of food. There is a good one on tea.

In it, there's a great line about how tea is the most affordable luxury in the world - even $600 for a pound of tea gets you 600 cups of tea. $1/drink for a luxury is pretty good.

I can't afford to spend that much but there are some really amazing loose-leaf teas out there for very low prices.

My wife has a Cuisinart tea pot that has different settings for different teas. Each tea type has a specified temp it is supposed to be brewed at and she follows it religiously. I usually set it to the hottest and walk away. :)

Never heard of cleaning the tea, nor seen it in all my Asia travels. Will need to read up on that.

Actually learned it in China, but I'm sure everybody has their methods

I just wouldn't suggest a power washer, but YMMV

Nice write up, I was doing a bunch of loose tea for a while, great stuff. This is the first I have seen about "cleaning", I'll keep that in mind for when I get back into it, thanks!
